Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a descendant art of Kodokan Judo, based on ground fighting (ne-waza) and submission holds emphasizes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger, heavier opponent by using leverage and weight distribution, taking the fight to the ground and using a number of pinning combinations, strangle holds and joint locks to defeat them. Sparring, and live drilling play a major role in training and the practitioner’s development. In this program one will learn the foundations and execution of off-balancing or lifting an opponent, and throwing them to the ground with proper control and technique, advancing to a control position or pinning combination and how to administer proper controlled submission techniques. Conversely one will learn proper defense against attacks from an aggressive opponent with maximum efficient use of energy.
